October 2020. Peter, Niels and Souf found Spatialise. We are a European collective of recent graduates from Geo-Information Science & Remote Sensing at Wageningen University & Research. Spatialise represents a scientific approach for translating data into practical tools and actionable knowledge.

What’s geodata?

From our experience, all data is explicitly or implicitly spatial — it deals with location. You could first think of a location as the place you have stored your data. This could be your computer or a memory stick. When using a cloud drive or a remote server, your data is also physically stored somewhere in the world. But what information does it contain? Even in dull data, location is implicit. Whether it is your cloud storage server’s physical location, which may be important for operational concerns like latency, or a good old spreadsheet covering your income and expenses. Think about that last one. If your customer has an address, that is potentially useful data. We consider data that is location-specific. And with all the information we collect and assess nowadays, it is often useful to create services and tools that are cognizant of this fundamental dimension — space.

Geodata is information about geographic locations that is stored in a format that can be used with a geographic information system (GIS). Geodata can be stored in a database, geodatabase, shapefile, coverage, raster image, or even a dbf table or Microsoft Excel spreadsheet.

It is our mission to make geodata accessible in this growing world of information. So when your data has a known location, we would like to find out how can get from the what to the what now.

We bring data alive with vivid maps and practical tools that support decision making for you and your clients.

Increased demand for actionable (geo)data and a passion for mapping persuaded us to combine our strengths and offer our expertise to the world. There is a heightened political awareness about the necessity to decouple economic growth from environmental impacts. For a transition towards a green economy radical innovation plays a central role. Start-ups are key market actors in the development and market introduction of radical sustainable innovation, and have the potential to accelerate this transition. We intend to be part of this process by including sustainability, durability and resilience into our corporate vision.

Before we go, we invite you to cup of (virtual) coffee to discuss the big world of bits and coordinates.

Let’s spatialise together!
